THE investigator probing this year's SuperGP debacle has ditched two of the objectives he was tasked to review so he can focus on finding suitable future options for a Gold Coast motor racing event.
Sports Minister Phil Reeves yesterday told State Parliament David Willi ams had advised there was an overlap with his review and one being conducted by Auditor-General Glenn Poole.
Mr Poole is focusing on the contractual arrangements involved in relation to the A1GP, which pulled out of the event at the last minute, and the Government's arrangements that were established to operate the event.
Mr Williams had been given five issues to review, including an analysis of the circumstances focusing on the Government's due diligence and management of the event and conclusions and recommendations in regard to the future staging of the event.
Mr Reeves said Mr Williams, who is due to release his findings by the end of this month, had thought it more appropriate those issues be addressed by the Auditor-General.
"The Auditor-General has agreed, and this will allow more scrutiny of the governance and the due diligence associated with the staging of the SuperGP and will avoid any duplication," said Mr Reeves.
Mr Williams would now concentrate on providing a short contextual history of the event, including cost and economic benefits, a description of the circumstances surrounding staging the 2009 event and advice on its future.
Mr Poole had not yet indicated when his review would be completed.
The Auditor-General is responsible for providing Parliament an independent assessment of the financial management-related activities of public sector entities and Mr Poole has a track record for being tough on the Government. In recent months he has released several scathing and highly embarrassing reports about the Government's handling of infrastructure, transport and health.
LNP leader John-Paul Langbroek said he was confident Mr Poole would give a fearless report and was not concerned Mr Williams was leaving some aspects of the review to him.
