Eye of the Gold Coast storm passes

THE worst is over for water-logged Gold Coast residents -- but don't pack away the umbrella yet.

Up to 180mm was dumped on some areas of the Coast yesterday, while wind gusts reached 63km/h.

There has been no recordable rain on the Gold Coast in the last hour and the heaviest falls since 9am yesterday have been 41mm at Upper Springbrook and 27mm at Biggera Creek Dam.

All roads are open on the Gold Coast, including Siganto Drive at Helensvale, and Tamborine Oxenford Road at Wongawallan, both of which were closed yesterday.

The Bureau of Meteorology released a final flood warning at 6am for coastal streams from Bundaberg to the New South Wales border including adjacent inland areas.

The forecast for the Gold Coast today is cloudy with a few showers and a maximum temperature of 26 degrees.

A trough that tracked up the NSW coast was responsible for the heavy rainfall yesterday morning, before a monsoonal low brought lighter showers in the afternoon.

Bureau of Meteorology senior weather forecaster Bryan Rolstone said the trough had yesterday reached the Fraser Coast, where it formed into a weak low.

The system will continue moving northeast and is not expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone.
